When your home is broken into, it can be a truly terrifying experience. Don’t let your home fall victim to thieves. To help you do just that, the master-planned community of Craig Ranch in McKinney, TX is sharing a few tips on how to keep your home safe from burglars.

Install a Wireless Alarm System

While any alarm system is good to have, the best to have is a wireless alarm system that is connected to your cell phone. That way you will get an immediate notification if someone tries to break in. Wireless alarm systems are also harder for burglars to disconnect and disarm.

Motion-Sensor Lighting

Adding motion sensing outdoor lighting will not only make every area of your house clearly visible, but when it flashes on, it will startle the burglar and cause them to leave. Place them near all major entryways and even on other sides of your house so you know that no one can sneak around your house without being seen.

Keep Your Windows Shuttered

Many modern home designs have begun to incorporate more windows to let more natural light in. While this is great, you should make sure that you have shutters, drapes or curtains that can properly cover your windows when you aren’t home. Otherwise, the burglar will be able to look directly into your home and see all of your valuables.

Using Deadbolt Locks

Deadbolts are highly effective at protecting your door from being easily kicked in, and they are harder to pick. Add a deadbolt lock to each door of your home to make them more secure and keep burglars out. If you frequently exit and enter your home through the garage, you can also add a single sided deadbolt lock to your front door that can only be unlocked from the inside.

Doing these 4 things should help to protect your home from any burglars. For more helpful homeowner tips or more information about the master-planned community of Craig Ranch in McKinney, TX, explore the Craig Ranch website today.
