The summer heat isn’t leaving the community of McKinney, Texas for some time and yet, the 2013-2014 school year will be here soon! Hang up your beach towel and store away your flip flops because it’s time to brush off your backpacks and stock up on school supplies. A new school year means a new, fast-paced family “tempo” in your home. If you have been disorganized and rushed during the past school year, it’s time to make a change.

Instead of making a drastic sleep schedule adjustment the night before the first day of school, ease everyone into the school year routine gradually during the last two weeks of summer. Apply this to your meal schedule as well.

Be sure you’re using a centralized family calendar to track after-school activities, school programs and volunteer work. Apps like Cozi or Famjama can be used as your one-stop-shop for family time management. If you don’t consider yourself to be technologically savvy, a paper calendar with large squares, such as this one from Target, or white board calendars can help keep busy lives straight.

Instead of spending endless amounts of time in the kitchen (or in the fast food drive-thru line), create a menu plan to keep you on track and prepared during the week. The goal of menu planning is to grocery shop efficiently for seven dinner meals, while minimizing expenditure, cooking, shopping and cleaning time. So don’t even step foot in to the grocery store until you have your menu plan! For more menu planning tips, visit

If you’re unfamiliar with the schools for children residing in Craig Ranch, the majority attend the exemplary-rated Frisco ISD, which includes Ogle Elementary SchoolComstock Elementary School, Scoggins Middle School and Liberty High School.

There is also Daffodils Montessori School and Coram Deo Academy for those looking for an opportunity to enjoy excellent private educational facilities while remaining close to home.

We hope you begin the 2013-2014 school year prepared and ready for a fun year of activities, new experiences and making memories!
