It’s a month-long celebration of McKinney’s community culture, including the arts, humanities and agricultural tourism. Bloomin’ & Boomin’ kicks off on June 10, 2001 with the dedication of the Crape Myrtle Trails World Collection Park and ends with Red White & BOOM!, the city’s annual Independence Day celebration on July 4.
Organizations and attractions throughout the city have filled the calendar with daily events, including historic tours, concerts, stage productions, art exhibits, and even an ice cream festival. The goal is to allow visitors and residents of all ages and all interests the opportunity to experience the eclectic and exciting mix of culture in McKinney.
During Bloomin’ & Boomin’, you can shop at the Farmers Market at Chestnut Square and take a trolley tour of the historic district. If you have small children, bring them to the Pioneer Tots Story Time in the One-Room Schoolhouse. At the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary, you can enjoy story time, guided trail walks, live snake feedings, and the tree tops adventure ropes course.
Artists who will be performing include Maura O’Connell, the McKinney Community Band, American Idol stars and more. The McKinney Repertory Theatre’s Young Actors Guild will present The Emperor’s New Clothes June 17-19. Jammin’ in June Music in the Park includes concerts by Vocal Trash on June 16, Acoustix on June 23, and Phares Corder Orchestra on June 30.
